Add ons. depending on left over budget, I asked Guillermo to compile a list of add ons that are cost effective and add value to the home that I can consider. Here is his response.
Let me know what you think....
ADD ONs i would consider:
1. A plunge pool. Approx. 8x10 in size. I think that a small pool with proper settings, lighting can be such a great added value, this for resale purposes or for pure enjoyment.
2. Upgrade in kitchen appliances, this is an item that can give you great return. Things such as a great refrigerator, ice maker, maybe a separate wine cooler...
3. Exterior lighting. We have provided the minimum for the entry area. BUT throwing 2k on exterior lighting and basic landscaping can be a great added value.
4. we can also intall some built in de-humidifiers. Given the level of humidity that the house can reach in some times of the year it can be a nice added value....

Pools cannot be stolen. Appliances and lighting can be. I don't know if you are in a gated community or not. I don't know what the area is like or whether you have a caretaker. But thievery is rampant in Costa Rica, they tell me.
What is the situation in that area regarding thievery?
Yes, I hear you. Security is a big issue. The hills of Nosara are pretty safe. And yet, I know my neighbors have protective cladding on all their windows. You hear stories or people having their homes broken into. What will I do?
Well, for one thing, my house is on a cul-de-sac. I think that helps. Its also hidden from the road. I recently purchased a cubic yard of pit vipers which I will encourage to inhabit the house.
No, wait, never mind with the Vipers. Bad idea.
I have a bodega. concrete bunker. I will put all the expensive items in thier when I lock up, build a fence and maybe find a full time renter for the cabina. That would probably be the best.
It seems all your add-ons could be done later. Why not wait until you start spending more time there? You will be able to do things yourself and save money. If you are thinking resale, when do you plan to resell, if 10 year or more, then maybe stick with the cheaper appliances and replace later.
I would say being hidden in the woods on a cul-de-sac increases theft risk.
